SECOND ANNUAL HOOPFEST COMING TO NW GOLDBERG JULY 19-21

Bigger and better with surprise guests and special activations all weekend long!

Detroit, MI – CURTIS JONES PARK will be buzzing with activity this weekend, thanks to the second annual HOOPFEST.

HOOPFEST, a three-day event, will feature free food trucks, giveaways, competitions and games, special guests, an adults-only live performance from Detroit rapper Baby Money, a celebrity game with Council President Mary Sheffeld and special guest coach Chris Webber and more.

“It is all about the community - three days really isn’t enough, but it is something that we are proud to do in partnership with Council President Mary Sheffield,” said Founder and Executive Director Daniel A. Washington.

The park has undergone some major upgrades since last year’s inaugural event and will feature a digital scoreboard thanks to PepsiCo. There are also several new activations this year including a GIRLS-ONLY clinic in partnership with the Detroit Dodgers, a BARBERSHOP POP UP featuring free haircuts and braiding for attendees, and a live performance featuring multiple Detroit-based rappers.

The organization is currently accepting donations of brand-new, in-box sneakers of any size via an Amazon Wish List. One of the event goals is to give-a-way 500 pairs of sneakers to Detroit children throughout the weekend.

The event is supported by Henry Ford Health, the Skillman Foundation, the Detroit Pistons, the Detroit Sports Commission, Council President Mary Sheffield, and the Motor City Cruise, along with various small business prize sponsors.

“This weekend wouldn’t be possible without the support of countless partners and sponsors,” said Washington. “Exposure and access to opportunity is important in the work we do and is a shared belief amongst so many others.”

The event in its entirety is free, however registration is required.
